Performance Analysis of a Fluidic Oscillator with a Tapered Outlet

This study proposes a novel fluidic oscillator shape with a tapered outlet. To prove the performance of the proposed oscillator, the performance parameters, such as jet frequency, jetting angle, peak velocity ratio, and pressure drop, were numerically evaluated. For the performance evaluation, a parametric study using the height of the outlet nozzle and the location where the taper starts was performed. The flow analysis was conducted using three-dimensional unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with SST turbulence model. The results showed that the tapered outlet improved overall overall performance of the fluidic oscillator without a large increase in the pressure drop. As the height of the outlet nozzle or the taper location decreased, the performance improved, but the performance showed higher sensitivity to the height.
