Performance Analysis of Solid Rocket Motor According to Burn-back Method

초록

grain shape. The burn-back means the analysis of the change in the grain geometry. Since changes of the burning surface give a direct effect to chamber pressure and thrust, the burn-back analysis is essential for the performance analysis of the solid rocket motor (SRM). The grain burn-back is a pure geometric analysis. There are two typical methods of the burnback analysis; Numerical method and Analytical method. The numerical method uses the numerical algorithm in order to evaluate the surface regression of the propellant grain and calculate the boundary motion of the grain configuration. The numerical method is useful for the complex grain configuration but involves numerical error and requires high performance resource. The analytical method calculates the burning surface using the dimensional parameters like the radius, web distance and fillet radius etc. Burning steps can be classified according to the shape change of the propellant grain and dimensional parameters are adapted for every burning step. The burning surface is calculated analytically at each burning step. In this study, performance analysis has been conducted according to the burn-back method. Comparative studies of the burn-back methods have also been fulfilled for the same grain configuration. Burning surface changes with the progress of the combustion has been compared. From this result, characteristics of each burn-back method have been analyzed.
