F-O-F Injector Design and Test for Fuel Rich Gas Generator

Spray experiments were conducted using CCD camera and patternator to develop F-O-F impinging type injector elements for gas generator. The diameter of fuel and oxidizer feed line was chosen by the total mass flow rate of optimized gas generator for 10tonf thrust engine. Five types of injector element with various impinging distances from the plate and impinging angles were configured and tested using propellant simulant of kerosene/water although kerosene/Lox is the actual propellant combination for the original liquid rocket engine. The momentum ratios between simulant and actual propellant were kept to be equivalent in the range of 0.2~1.3. The comparison of test results of each injector element reveals that the mixing efficiency with 45 degree of impinging angle and 6mm in mixing distance shows the best performance in droplet formation. The selected injectors can be used in evaluating combustion performance of gas generator in the hot fire test.
