Design and development of lead-free transparent dielectric in PDP

For the control of environmental pollution in electrical and electronic manufactures, RoHS (Reduction of hazardous substances) and WEEE (Waste in electrical and electronic equipment) in the European Union will be valid from 2006 and 2008, respectively. To count this regulation, many researches on lead-free compositions for PDP (plasma display panel) dielectric glass compositions have been made. In this work, B2O3-ZnO-RO-RO2 and P2O5-ZnO-RO-RO2 glasses systems have been considered as an alternative system. Thermal analysis (DTA, TMA) was applied for both qualitative and quantitative thermal properties (Tg, CTE) of the glasses, and optical property was determined. Glasses in the P2O5-RO’s and B2O3-RO’s systems plus additives have been examined as potential replacements for PbO glass frits for transparent dielectric.
