Study on Initial Ignition of Interior Ballistics according to Igniter Configurations

초록

A numerical study on characteristics of the interior ballistics according to the igniter configurations in terms of the igniter length and ignition charge mass as well as the diameter and distribution of side holes has been conducted using the two-dimensional axi-symmetric code through the Eulerian-Lagrangian approach. The code has been developed to simulate the two-phase flows of the interior ballistics in the chamber, combining the LSHUS (Low-dissipation simple high-resolution upwind scheme) method with the MUSCL(Monotone upstream-centered scheme for conservation laws) and the minmod limiter. The lumped parameter method with the theoretical orifice equation has been used for the numerical model of the ignition-gas injection into the chamber. As results, the muzzle velocities of all cases are similar, while the differential pressures between the breech and the shot base are different according to the igniter configurations. The oscillations of the differential pressure have been influenced by the igniter length. The negative differential pressure has been increased with decrease of the igniter length. The other effects are relatively small.
