Study on Differential Pressure Characteristics in Chamber of Cannon According to Ignition-Gas Injection

The study on differential pressure characteristics in the chamber of the cannon according to the injection method of ignition-gas has been conducted using the 1-D interior ballistics numerical code. In case of the large-caliber cannon, high temperature ignition-gas is injected to the chamber through the side hole of the primer to ignite the propellant. The method of the injection has significant impact on the propellant combustion, resulting in the performance variations of the cannon such as muzzle velocity, maximum breech pressure and differential pressure etc. Ignition-gas of existing primer has been uniformly injected to the chamber. So, in this study, the various injection methods have been imposed on the propellant combustion. The results show various differential pressure and maximum breech pressure according to the injection method. In some case, the differential pressure was reduced. Since the negative differential pressure may give a bad influence on the cannon performance, the results confirm that the performance of cannon can be improved according to the proper injection method of ignition-gas.
