Bioactive Modification of Alumina by coating with Bioactive Glasses

초록

Two different glasses were coated on a dense alumina in sequence, one for better bonding between a glass and an alumina and the other for hydroxyapatite formation. When the glass coated- alumina was heat-treated, the cover coat layer was crystallized into various crystalline phases, such as oxyapatite, a-wollastonite and b-wollastonite, depending on heat-treatment conditions. The specimens were reacted in a simulated body fluid and examined the hydroxyapatite forming behavior in terms of crystalline phase obtained in the bioactive layer. The hydroxyapatite forming rate was faster in the sample containing a-wollastonite crystal.
