Longitudinal analysis of delinquent behavior among Korean adolescents.

This study examines the pattern of change of delinquency behavior among Korean adolescents. A total 1,012 adolescents participated in the study when they were Grade 6 students. When they reached Grade 7, a total of 846 were followed-up. In the first phase, those adolescents who received less social support from their parents, teachers, and friends and who had lower scores on self-regulatory motivation efficacy and higher scores on social efficacy were more likely to engage in delinquent behavior. In the follow-up study, those adolescents who received less financial support from their parents and perceived their parents as being hostile and neglecting, less emotional support and greater hostility from their teachers, and less social support and greater social rejection from their friends were more likely to engage in delinquent behavior. Third, those students with lower academic grade were more likely to engage in delinquent behavior
