Preparation and Structural Characteristcs of High Performance Thermal Insulating Polyurea Aerogels

Porous materials are used as thermal insulation materials because their thermal conductivity is highly smaller than the thermal conductivity of non-porous materials. And the mechanical properties are also important for degree of thermal conductivity. However, it is difficult to enhance both thermal insulation and mechanical properties simultaneously. To maintain various properties of these materials, we prepared porous polyurea aerogels by sol-gel processing and supercritical carbon dioxide drying. These materials are lightweight, thermally stable and nanostructured. The pore size, morphology and surface area of aerogels were investigated by SEM, TEM and BET measurements.
