Functional role of deverse kimchi for the protection of gastric mucosal damage
초록
We explored anti-ulcer effects of diverse kimchi, chinese cabbage and white-radish on indomethacin (Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) induced gastric mucosal damage in rats. We divided the animals in 7 groups as follows: (G1) normal, (G2) 25 mg/kg indomethacin + vehicle, (G3) 25 mg/kg indomethacin + 540 mg/kg chinese cabbage, (G4) 25 mg/kg indomethacin + 750 mg/kg baek-kimchi, (G5) 25 mg/kg indomethacin + 480 mg/kg white-radish, (G6) 25 mg/kg indomethacin + 720 mg/kg dong-chi-mee, (G7) 25 mg/kg indomethacin + 100 mg/kg lansoprazole. 25 mg/kg indomethacin was given to all rats (n=10) by oral gavage in 3% sodium bicarbonate. Six hours after, the entire rats were sacrificed and confirmed gastrointestinal erosions and ulcers. Pretreatment with test article at 30 minutes before administration of indomethacin resulted in a decrease in gastric damage areas. We had similar patterns of result in mucosal concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines, such as iNOS. These results showed that the gastroprotective effects afforded by kimchi on gastric injury induced by indomethacin are mediated by inhibition of oxidative cellular injury of gastric mucosa and mucosal proinflammatory cytokine production, leading to suppression of mucosal inflammation. In conclusion, these results suggest that, diverse kimchi may be a potential candidate for therapy of gastric mucosal damage and diverse kimchi accomplishes the protective effect on indomethacin-induced gastric mucosal damage. Key words: kimchi, indomethacin, mucosal, iNOS
