The ferrites, CuFe2O4 and NiFe2O4, were used to decompose H2O for H2 generation. The ferrite powders were prepared by a co-precipitation method. In the redox reaction, CuFe2O4 showed excellent redox reactivity compared with those of NiFe2O4. CuFe2O4 was reduced by CH4 at 623 K, which was 210 K lower than the temperature of NiFe2O4. The H2O decomposition temperature of the reduced NiFe2O4 was 40 K lower than that of reduced CuFe2O4 but the weight less recovery of the reduced CuFe2O4 was much higher than that of reduced NiFe2O4 at 1073 K. CuFe2O4 was showed excellent decomposition abilities in H2O decomposition for H2 generation.
