Identification of Damages Within a Plate Structure

In this study, an FRF-based structural damage identification method (SDIM) is developed for plate structures. It is derived from the dynamic equation of motion for damaged plates, in which damages are characterized by use of a damage distribution function. The appealing features of the present SDIM may include the followings: (1) the modal data are required only for intact structure; (2) many damages can be located and quantified simultaneously; (3) a set of linear equations for damage identification can be generated very efficiently by varying both excitation frequency and FRF measurement point; and (4) a reduced-domain approach of SDIM is introduced, in which the damage-free zones are removed every itera- tion to finally locate damages within a few iterations.
