초록

A city is intimately related to water. A city has been developed along the river, from the history and civilization stand point, and water has been considered as a fundamental source for sustaining a city in terms of economic progress including agriculture and industrial evolution. The city of Seoul has been evolved from the Lee Dynasty along the Han River which has been the axis of the urban development. However, an excessive city development and continuous environmental destruction has caused the flood in lowlands along the Han River in summer monsoon Stream. Even though the city government has made a great effort to reorganize and protect the river shore area with concrete embankment and increase the number of rainwater pumping stations every year, it is inadequate preparations for unpredictable precipitation. Instead of temporal and instant response to such a natural disaster, this study rather focuses on reading a site carefully from an architectural standpoint. In other words, this study attempts to seek after the problems that come from a collision between the city and Nature within the site itself, to reinterpret the ecological mechanism, such as th river flood occurred in the discrepant relationship between natural topography and city grid system, into an architectural device of landscape, and to create new urban milieu. Keyword: urban milieu, ecology, natural disaster
