Probabilistic characteristics of shear strength of RC girder are evaluated during the reliability based calibration process for the revision of Korean bridge design code and assessment code. The values of the resistance factors and the load factors of the current code were decided mostly by experience and have been used for long time. As technologies in the field of material, construction and design are rapidly developing recently, it is necessary to calibrate the safety factors by applying more reasonable method. Statistical study is conducted by evaluating the probability of failure or reliability index of the current code. In order to assess the current state of the problem, field data for concrete and reinforcing bar as well as truck live load are collected. In this paper, numerical results of reliability analysis for shear strength of RC bridge girder are presented. For example span ranges, shear strengths of designed girder sections are obtained by design formulas given in ACI and Euro code. Statistical characteristics of shear strength are obtained by simulation and reliability indexes are obtained by FORM. The results are compared and discussed.
