This study examines factors that influence the perception of trust and distrust among high school students in Korea using the indigenous psychologies approach (Kim, 2000). A sample of 295 high school students (147 male, 147 female students, and 1 student who did not state their sex) and their parents (295 mothers and 295 fathers) completed an open-ended questionnaire developed by the present researchers. The results indicate that the vast majority of students trusted their parents completely and unconditionally. The most important basis for trusting their parents is that they are related to them by blood, followed by the fact that they make sacrifices for the students, they respect them, and they depend on them. The most important basis for parents trusting their children are that they are related to their children by blood and since their children are honest and sincere.
