초록

Purpose:This study examines the development of El Salvador’s Education with Community Participation (EDUCO) school-based management program and its impact on the community through the lens of Wenger’s perspective, Community of Practice (CoP) as the Social Theory of Learning. Methods:Three issues were investigated, namely, how school-based management in rural areas had been introduced; El Salvador’s EDUCO program’s foundations, characteristics, and outcomes; how EDUCO program contributed to decentralize school system in a developing country; and finally reexamine how it enhances learning outcomes in the society in the dimension of community development. Results:It is noticed that EDUCO program fits the main aspects of CoP by involving community in school practices and benefiting students and community itself with qualified education. Conclusion:It is important to underline that the outcomes of this program were not only centered on education for children but also for the community rehabilitation, specifically for the participants on ACE, the council responsible of managing the program to local level together with the Ministry of Education.
