The Preliminary Results of High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound in Patients With Pancreatic Cancer

초록

Background/Aims : High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation can be used to ablate tumor noninvasively using focused ultrasound energy from an external source. Because of the frequent delay diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, a majority of patients have unresectable disease at presentation. Unfortunately, until now no effective modality has been identified for these patients. Especially, pain is a common and serious symptom in patients with pancreatic cancer therefore pain control is an important component of palliation. We evaluate the safety and efficacy of HIFU for palliation of inoperable pancreatic cancer. Patients and Methods: From July 2008 to August 2009, 13 patients were retrospectively reviewed who had been treated with HIFU for inoperable pancreatic cancer.
