초록

The elaboration of nanocomposite systems has been interested in various research fields by embedding inorganic particles into polymeric matrices. In order to achieve a improved dispersion of inorganic compound, techniques for synthesizing colloidal nanocomposites made of inorganic particles surrounded by polymer have been developed via either physicochemical or chemical processes. As one of the chemical processes, admicellar polymerization was introduced to the synthesis of organic-inorganic composites. Admicellar polymerization, which is a term derived from adsorption and micelle, defines a class of in situ polymerizations taking place inside of adsorbed surfactant bilayers on various substrates, especially applied inorganic particles with hydrophilic surfaces. In this study, titanium dioxide (TiO2) particles were covered with polystyrene (PS) in order to make hydrophilic surface hydrophobic, and enhance the dispersion in oil medium by verifying complete coating. Furthermore, TiO2 -coated PS particles were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR, Perkin Elmer System 2000), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA, TA instrument, Q 50, USA), scanning electron microscope (SEM, S-4300, Hitachi), and transmission electron microscope (TEM, CM200, Phillips). Keywords: adsolubilization, admicellar polymerization, organic-inorganic composite
