Automatic Cartilage Segmentation using Multi-level Gaussian Filters

This paper presents an automatic cartilage segmentation using 3D normal vector by multi-level Gaussian filters for 3D Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI) for diagnosis of Osteoarthritis (OA). A 3D visualization tool based on the Visualization Tool-Kit is developed for displaying the segmented cartilage volumes. Finally, a cartilage thickness and volume measurement is made in the 2D and 3D MR images. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness and efficiency of the proposed approach to 3D cartilage segmentation.
