The interaction of alkali metal adsorbates with transition metal surfaces has received much attention for practical and academic reasons. The interface magnetism of Fe(110) adsorbed by half-layer of potassium is investigated by using the all-electron full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method [1] within the local spin density approximation (LSDA). The magnetism of interface Fe is suppressed by the adsorbed K: the magnetic moment of interface Fe atom (2.01 bohrmagneton) is much smaller than that of clean Fe(110) surface (2.65 bohrmagneton) and even smaller than that of bulk Fe (2.22 bohrmagneton). The calculated work function has a value (3.1 ev) in between those of K and Fe(110) surface. [1] E. Wimmer, H. Krakauer, M. Weinert, and A. J. Freeman, Phys. Rev. B 24, 864 (1981); M. Weinert, E.
