초록

In this paper, the FE analysis is formed to investigate the deformation characteristics of forward and backward can extrusion process using a tube in terms of maximum forming load and extruded length ratio in a combined material flow. A commercially available code is used to conduct rigid-plastic FEM simulation. A tube is usually employed as initial billet for efficient productivity. Specifications of tubes are examined and some are selected to obtain final shape with appropriate dimensions. The pressure exerted on the tool between material and conical die is calculated and the predicted maximum pressure is also depicted for safe tooling. The safety of die-set is considered and evaluated using the maximum pressure exerted on the die wall. The effect of friction factors and thickness ratio of extruded tubes in both forward and backward directions on the deformation pattern are investigated to compare the variation of maximum pressure exerted along the die-wall interface. In this study, a combined extrusion process for forward/backward tube shape is selected for analysis.
