<p align="justify">New manufacturing processes for a valve-spring retainer component are proposed. The rigid-plastic FEM has been applied to simulate the conventional five-stage manufacturing processes for the valve-spring retainer component. The processes include mainly backward extrusion and heading. A design methodology is applied for the manufacturing process. The design criteria are the forging load within the available press limit, the relatively simple manufacturing process than the conventional one, no geometrical defects, and the material savings. As a result, simulations of one step process from selected stocks to the final product shape are performed for a possibly better process than the conventional one. Statistics among the different processes are summarized in terms of forging loads and so on.<p align="justify">
