Contemporary Korean society has seen a rapid increase in the number of foreign migrants in recent years. However, the country is still generally described as an ethnically and culturally homogenous society due to the prevalent use of the national language, symbols, and traditions. Given the widespread availability of free Korean language courses through both site-based and online real-time video lectures, it is not surprising to hear about foreigners' increased use of and proficiency in the Korean language. This study provides a critical review of perceptions of marriage migrants about the great importance of Korean language and how they lack awareness about their rights and duties to use their mother tongues in the course of their lives in South Korea.
