Induction of penile fibrosis using mouse NIH3T3 fibroblasts expressing transforming growth factor-1

초록

A single dose of rh-TGF-β1 did not resulted in cavernous fibrosis due to its short half-life and the vascular nature of the corpus cavernosum. However, NIH 3T3 fibroblasts containing a transgene, TGF-β1, showed sustained TGF-β1 expression and induced cavernous fibrosis that lasts for 20 days. This model will be an important role in further investigation of the pathogenesis of penile fibrosis associated with TGF-β1 signal and development of new therapeutics targeting this signal transduction.
