Analysis of Building Roof-top Wind Distribution by Using Joint Distribution of Wind Speed and Direction and CFD

초록

Urban wind turbines are recommended for installation on building roof-top to capture more wind energy. It is critical to decide where to install the wind turbine on the roof-top area. In this paper a computed joint probability density function of wind-speed and direction is proposed as an input to simulate the wind fields over the roof top. Singly-truncated, normal Weibull mixture distribution (TNW-pdf) is used for wind-speed distribution function and von Mises mixture distribution is utilized for wind direction distribution. These two functions are jointly tested to simulate the wind database. The method proposed by Johnson and Wehrly is used to obtain angular-linear distributions for this purpose. The acceleration and secondary effect of building's roof-top upon the wind distribution is investigated by the CFD technique. This information provides wind speeds at one specified location on the roof-top with certain probabilities. Thereby the wind speed distribution at a specified location on the roof-top is suggested for the wind turbine application.
