Schole : A Design Proposal for a Development of Urban Ecological Platform by Re-cultivating the site of Samgak Mansion

The city landscape of Seoul, going through a radical urbanization, has been dotted with numerous non-confirmed empty lots, and ecological system as a planned city has faced a socio-humanistic crisis since period of Japanese occupation and the War. As a city is expanded, the Samgakji, in particular, is the one known for an area having many non-confirming zones that turned a chrono-topological no man’s land. In the project, we select a vacant and abandoned lot in the Samgakji area as a site, which presently belongs to KEPCO and Samgak mansion apartment and where the shadows of the past linger. Mainly focusing on socio-humanistic urban ecology, the project aims at developing a new type of urban residential complex in ecological relation with the surrounding context, investigating the type of future residential complex that particularly includes living-alone residents who plan the second life in an aging society, and building a ecological urban platform in the contemporary society.
