A Design Proposal for Urban Ghetto as ‘a Cradle of Another Culture’

The purpose of the study is to reconsider the ruined Naksan quarry in Changsindong as ground for a cradle of another culture, and to propose an architectural design reflecting multi-culture generated by a migrant of foreign workers on the spot next to the cutting cliff of the stone pit. The main argument is focused on how to create a multi-cultural community accommodating complex programs for daily life including commerce, residence, production, assembly, education, and etc., how to provide the new and old communities with an opportunity to conceive a new cultural practice, and how to design cultural complex through reinterpreting the historical ecology in repetitive recurrence.
