A design procedure of current power generating rotors and acceptable field rotors in offshore environment is studied. The study is focused on HAT (Horizontal Axis turbine) type system. To design HAT rotor mode, wind mill rotor design principles and turbine theories were applied based on a field HAT rotor experimental data. To verify the compatibility of the rotor design method and to analyze the properties of design factors, three rotor models were designed and experimented in a circular water channel. The models were designed according to different blade numbers and blade shapes. At various incoming current velocities, the rotor rpm, power and efficiency were measured and the properties of rotors were estimated. The performance of each rotor at various current velocities was analyzed and compared. The results can be effectively applied to the design of current generation system.
