An experimental technique named filtration-permeation is proposed to study the phenomena during filtration. The average specific resistance measured by conventional filtration test could be wrong up to 120 % by the sedimentation during filtration. It is due to the variation of mass fraction of suspension, S, by sedimentation. Filtration-permeation is recommended to measure exact average specific cake resistance. With the filtration-permeation of small amount of slurry, which eventually formed very thin cake, the phenomena during the initial period of filtration were observed. The cake formed at the initial period has large average specific resistance. This phenomenon is explained by the first solid layer compression.
