초록
To investigate the fatigue life of structures, typically three methods are applied that are stress-life, strain-life and fracture mechanics approaches. The stress-life approach with S-N curve is commonly applied to investigate the total fatigue life. However this method is limited to interpret accurately the crack initiation or propagation. The strain life approach with crack initiation only cocerns the initiation of crack. The paper describes onthe fatigue strength of logitudinal web frame of a 310,000 DWT double hull tanker. The total life of the tanker is predicted by evaluation of crack initiation and its growth lives. The results are compared both with S-N method and the fatigue strength assessment rule developed by Korean Register of Shipping.
