PERITONEAL DIALYSIS CATHETER INSERTION USING A DOUBLE-LUMEN HEMODIALYSIS CATHETER: A SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE TO TROCAR METHOD

Blind percutaneous placement is still used in the practice of peritoneal catheter insertion. However, it is time-consuming and may induce serious complications such as preperitoneal placement of catheter, bowel perforation and hemoperitoneum. To perform CAPD catheter insertion more easily, quickly and safely at bedside, we developed a new method using double lumen hemodialysis (HD) catheter instead of trocar. This novel catheter insertion technique appears to have a high success rate, to reduce serious complications re￢quiring surgery, and to offer considerable savings in terms of operating time. Thus, it seems to be a good alternative to the trocar method.
