This paper proposes a fault-tolerant control strategy for a turbofan engine through the design of an MPC (Model Predictive Controller) that incorporates fault sensitivity. To reflect the variations in state dynamics caused by faults, a UIO (Unknown Input Observer) is used to estimate fault-induced disturbances. Since both MPC and UIO are model-based approaches, linearized models for each fault type are derived under take-off operating conditions. The considered fault types are Fan Mass Flow Fault, High-Pressure Compressor (HPC) Mass Flow Fault, High-Pressure Turbine (HPT) Mass Flow Fault, and Low-Pressure Turbine (LPT) Mass Flow Fault. The performance of the proposed controller is assessed through comparative simulations against a baseline MPC that does not account for fault sensitivity and a Min-Max Limit controller.
