DEVELOPMENT OF PART MASTER FOR EFFICIENT MODELING OF PIPE EQUIMENTS IN 3-DIMENSIONAL SHIP CAD

Catalogue is an efficient approach to product modeling of outfitting parts in marine vessel design, which associates parametric design with geometry and attributes by means of part master. Together with the technique of feature based automatic modeling, it can reduce the time for repeated pipe design. This paper presents a parametric design system for part master in marine outfitting system. Piping systems commonly used in the ship design are classified into part master according to their feature and the attributes. The catalogue of part master can be used as a automatic modeling tool of standard piping parts. The presented system simplifies the construction of 3D geometry of piping parts by assigning the attribute value. The piping parts are classified and parameterized, and thus, allows for automatic creation of instance of part master. In this manner, 3D mold models are created with automatic model interpreter of catalogue. This work is implemented in an ship CAD system for practical ussage. Test examples demonstrate that it provides an effective approach to reducing the time in the repeated modeling of outfitting parts. The architecture of so called catalogue of part master reflects the typical ship CAD applications like standard parts. Present study explains a implementation process of part master of pipe equipments in a 3Dship CAD system. Schema of attributes for part masters are chosen from JIS(Japanese Industrial Standards) in order to explain the proposed procedure. As the schema of part masters is stored in database, 3D geometric model of equipment is generated by parsing the pre-defined attributes of catalogue.
