Study on the Evaluation of the Visibility of Rear Safety Signs on Domestric Out-of-gauge Cargo-loading Trucks

초록

The visibility evaluation of three rear safety signs on domestic out-of-gauge cargo-loading trucks was conducted under six weather conditions: day, day+fog, day+rain, night, night+fog, and night+rain. The three safety signs evaluated were a non-certified strap sign (Reference A), a domestic-standard safety sign (Reference B), and a newly developed safety sign (Development). Unlike the other two, Development incorporated fluorescent colors and retroreflective materials. The evaluation assessed the recognition distance and drivers’ subjective evaluation of the safety signs while driving at 30 km/h. The recognition distances consistently ranked as Reference A < Reference B < Development across all weather conditions. However, under specific complex conditions such as night+fog and day+rain, drivers’ subjective evaluations did not align with the actual recognition distances required to stop the truck. These results underscore the importance of using safety signs like Development to improve visibility. Adopting such products is expected to contribute to preventing rear-end collisions, thereby enhancing road safety.
