A Study on the re-organization of urban periphery Through the femininity of Incheon

Incheon is a city not only colonized but also modernized by others. It had been a foreign settlement of modernization in the colonial Chosun, and now it is a satellite town of Seoul suffered the cultural and economic colonization. The condition of Incheon made unique urban scenery mixed with industry, dwelling, port and exotic zone. It made us have a question about an identity of Incheon because of not an affirmative response on the diversity of Incheon but a negative response on the disorder. So this study intends to re-define the city of incheon on the assumption that Incheon needs a point of peripheral view excluded by modernistic view because of the unique situation of urbanization. Specialy we have a study with the notion of “femmage” used by feminist artist, Miliam Schapiro as a method of peripheral approach. Through the notion of “femmage” we are able to re-examine the city of Incheon and to explore urban design strategy. Keywords: colonization, modernization, feminism, femmage, hybridy, anonymity
