A Scalable Web based GIS Cluster System

A Web based GIS Cluster system is a cost-effective platform for large-scale GIS Internet services. A cluster of GIS servers, arranged to act as a single unit, provides incremental scalability as it grows gradually with demand. And it also provides availability that maximizes the percentage of clients request that succeed despite the failure of one or more servers in the cluster. The policy for balanced request distribution is major concern in the design of this system for improving availability and scalability. This paper give an overview of Web based GIS cluster system, system architecture and design issues. Also we propose two distribution methods. One is SLARD(Spatial Locality Aware Request Distribution) strategy and the other is SWARD(Spatial Workload-Aware Request Distribution) strategy.
