도시의 불규칙적 확장을 통해서 본 신도시 개발에 관한 연구

초록

The purpose of this study is to explore how to review the particular phenomena in the new cities developed during last decades through Rem Koolhaas' theory in the Urban Sprawl. The study thus attempts to analyze the urban sprawl through newly developed cities, to investigate new urban policy occurred in Korea, and to examine any social and cultural changes and the fundamental causes of such changes. To support this study, three examples such as Mokdong, Ilsan-gu and Yeonsu-gu are argued based on their peculiarities, problems, and future directions. 일반적으로 신도시는 모도시(母都市)의 인구과밀로 인한 주택 부족에 대한 해결책으로서 주택의 공급과 밀도 분산이라는 대 명제 하에 모 도시의 외곽에 자리잡으면서 새로운 주거문화를 형성하고 있다. 이러한 신도시들의 빠른 확산은 렘 콜하스가 역설하는 도시의 불규칙적 확장(urban sprawl)과 유사한 현상을 띠고 있는데, 특이한 점은 현재 우리나라의 신도시들의 모습이 각기 다른 생성 원인과 목적, 지리적 위치의 차이를 갖고 있음에도 불구하고 모두가 비슷한 내적, 외적 현상들을 보이고 있다는 것이다. 이들은 오늘날 신 주거문화의 전형이 되고 있으며, 그 안에서 새로운 생활양식(Life Style)이 형성되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 신도시를 통해서 도시의 불규칙적 확장에 대해 분석하고, 현재 우리나라에서 진행되고 있는 새로운 도시화(Urbanization)에 대해 고찰하며, 그 안에서 발생하는 사회, 문화적인 현상과 이러한 현상들의 근본적인 원인에 대해 살펴보고자 한다.
