SOUND QUALITY CONTROL OF INTERIOR SOUND OF A PASSENGER CAR USING CFRP ROOF

The paper presents the application of a carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminated compo- site plate to control the interior noise in a passenger car. The sound and vibration characteristics of the CFRP plate were studied in a previous work. In this work, the vibro-acoustic problem was studied using a closed rectangular box of which one flexible side wall was the CFRP plate. Three carbon-fiber/epoxy composite plates with fiber lamination angles of [-15/15/15/-15]s, [- 30/30/30/-30]s, and [-75/75/75/-75]s were fabricated and used as one flexible wall of the closed box. These plates were excited by an impact force, and the interior sound pressure within the closed box was calculated both theoretically and experimentally. Then, the identified vibro-acous- acteristics were used to apply the CFRP plate to the roof of a car, thereby controlling the interior noise.
