Factors Affecting Local Recurrence of Colorectal Cancer

Local recurrence after curative resection of ciolorectal cancer has an important influence on both survival and quality of life. The ability to predict which patients are likely to develop local recurrence of colorectal cancer maybe useful for intensive follow-up program that use physical examination, CEA, colonoscopy and CT and for detection of adjuvant radiation or chemotherapy. The aim of this retrospective study was to determine which aspects of tumor influenced the incidence of local recurrence after curative resection of colorectal cancer. In our study, the more advanced stage of primary tumor, lymphatics/vascular invasion and perineural invasion were significant factors of local recurrence than primary tumor location, primary tumor size, tumor differentiation, operation type and preoperative CEA level.
