An Exploratory Study on Research Trends of Cultural Education Using Folktales

초록

This study aimed to understand the trends and explore future directions for the development of cultural education using folktales by means of literature review on related theses. The analysis focused on basic publication information, research subjects, and utilized folktales and research content. The results are as follows: Firstly, research related to cultural education utilizing folktales increased in number from 2007 to 2022. Secondly, regarding the research subjects, there were more studies targeting cultural education for academic purposes rather than cultural education for learners with multicultural backgrounds. Thirdly, the analysis of the characteristics of the utilized folktales revealed a variety of types, with the highest number of studies utilizing traditional folk narratives. Moreover, the number of studies using domestic folktales was higher than those utilizing foreign folktales. Fourthly, the number of keywords on cultural education in the context of Korean language education was higher than cultural education in the context of multicultural or intercultural education. Lastly, on the basis of the analysis of research topics, studies on the development of cultural education programs accounted for the largest proportion, representing 90% of the total studies. Based on these results, the study suggested directions for future research related to cultural education utilizing folktales.
