초록

Polypropylene/montmorillonite (PP/MMT) nanocomposites were prepared by esterification of PP -g-maleic anhydride(MAPP) with MMT modified with α,ω-hydroxyamines. The structural characterization confirmed formation of ester linkages and interaction between the silicate layers. In particular, XRD pattern of the modified clays and MAPP/MMT composites showed 001 basal spacing enlargement as much as 0.14~0.62nm depending on the type of the α,ω-hydroxyamines. Thermal characterization by TGA for the composites revealed increased onset temperature of thermal decomposition. Melting peak temperature decreased and crystallization peak temperature increased indicating that MMT retarded crystallization of MAPP. Compounding of PP with MAPP/MMT composites enhanced tensile modulus and tensile strength of PP. However elongation at break decreased drastically even when the MMT content was as low as 0.4 ~ 2.0 wt%
