Error Diffusion Techniques for Reproduction of Smooth Gray Level In Dark Areas on PDP

초록

In order to generate images on the plasma displays equivalent to those on the CRT, inverse gamma correction should be applied. However, it results in degradation of gray level representation in the dark areas. Error diffusion or dithering has been widely utilized for inverse gamma correction to improve gray level representation. In this paper, effects of error diffusion or dithering on the quality of image are investigated. Also, a new error diffusion technique is proposed to overcome limitation of traditional error diffusion based technique.
