Low Noise Design of Partially-shroud Axial Fan for Home Appliance

While the shroud fan of short chord length serves very smoothly at low and mid pressure loads, it usually shows a very sharp drop of performance at a very high load. By the way, an axial fan without a shroud shows very unstable mode at mid pressure loads. To apply the axial fan to home appliances, it is needed to provide a smooth performance free of sharp performance drop and unstable mode for keeping quiet running regardless of operating conditions. The partially-shroud fan was designed for this purpose and tested. The performance and noise features are reported in this paper.
