An IP-USN based Sensor Networks Infrastructure for Meteorological and Ecological Observation in the Jeju Island
초록
In this work, we introduce our on-going effort to build an ecological observatory in Korea. As the first step, we initiated the first interdisciplinary research community in Korea, named as the KEON (Korea Ecological Observatory Networks) gathered from various fields of research areas such as ecology, computer science, meteorology, oceanography, plant biology, animal science, etc. The major mission of the KEON is to develop an ecological observatory network in monitoring ecology, environment, and biodiversity to advance eco-science at a national level, serving as a state-of-the-art national network to be applied to global as well as regional networks in ecological monitoring observatory. Especially we focus on the implementation of an ecological observatory in Jeju island area, named as the JEO (Jeju Ecological Observatory) cyber-testbed. The Jeo takes fast track approach to visualize quick prototype systems mainly based on currently available technologies and resources and focused on the application, demonstration and evaluation of advanced ICT (Information and communication technologies) for ecological observatory. The main goals of the JEO cyber-testbed are to study how to apply advanced ICT infrastructures for ecological observation, to demonstrate effectiveness of advanced ICT infrastructures for ecological observation, to explore new ecological observation methods based on advanced ICT infrastructures, to provide opportunity for idea validations and collaboration experiences for the development of long-term ecological observatory networks, and to help people outside ecology to understand ecological observation.
