Position Tracking Control of an Optical Pick-up Using Piezoceramic Actuators

This paper presents a position control of a optical pick-up featuring a piezoactuator for the CD-ROM. After establishing a dynamic model, a sliding mode controlleris designed and empirically realized. Various trajectories for the position control are adopted to emulate the dynamic motion of the control distance between the rotating disk and the objective lens. Favorable control performances are achieved in the sense of the positioning accuracy.
