Application of PCM-Hwangtoh Composites for Thermal Comfort in Newly Proposed Korean Traditional House

In residential buildings, Korean traditional house has many advantages such as harmony with nature and traditionality. However, low thermal performance is problem for Korean traditional house which is also for the future housings. Eventually the thermal energy load reduction and human comfort satisfaction can be increased by applying new type of material such as phase change material (PCM). Therefore, the possibility in application of PCM as newly proposed Korean traditional house is to investigate. The research method is to test heating and cooling load reduction and PMV analysis for human comfort by Esp-r simulation adopting multi variable PCM types in wall composite so called Hwangtoh. As a result, closer to passive house regulation material property, the ratio of PCM in reducing energy load gets bigger. The heating and cooling load reduction ratio are Case 1(old Korean traditional house): 11%, Case 2(Korean building Act): 15%, Case 3(passive house regulation): 61%. And the optimum phase change temperature of PCM is Case 1: 24-26, Case 2: 21-23, Case 3: 24-26 degree Celsius. In PMV analysis, usage of PCM can narrow the comfort range and centralize the optimal point which is 0 point.
