anhydride grafted styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN-MAH) and/or ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR-MAH) were chosen for the improvement of the compatibility between ABS and natural fiber. Effect of the incorporation of the coupling agents on the mech. properties of ABS/natural fiber composites was explored. EPR-MAH and SAN-MAH, improved tensile properties and Izod impact strength of the composites. SEM anal. showed that the boundary between ABS and natural fiber was much more obscure in ABS/SAN-MAH/EPR-MAH/natural fiber than in ABS/natural fiber composite due to the stronger interaction between the components through the plausible chem. reaction between the maleic anhydride grafted polymers and natural fiber.
