A Hybrid Dual-Path Buck Converter Relaxing Duty Cycle Control for Li-Ion Battery Applications

This paper presents a hybrid buck converter achieving a wide voltage conversion ratio (VCR) range from 0 to 1 with the single-mode operation for Li-ion battery applications. It operates in three phases using seven power switches, a flying capacitor, and a single inductor. The proposed power stage forms a dual-current path to reduce inductor current and conduction loss. The proposed architecture also eases low-duty-cycle control. Simulation results show a 96.1% peak efficiency at VIN=3.3V, VOUT=1.8V, and ILOAD =300mA. It achieves a 427.4-mV undershoot and 136.7-μs settling time in light-to-heavy load transients. © 2025 IEEE.
