Synthesis of Palladium(II) complexes containing phosphine and NHC ligands with bulky aryl group and their catalytic activity towards norbornene polymerization

Pd(II) complexes containing various NHC(N-heterocyclic carbene) ligands have been successfully synthesized by the reaction with phosphines.Treatments of dinuclear Pd-Phosphine complexes [(PPh3)2Pd2(Ph)2(μ-OH)2], with NHC salt such as IPr·HCl, IMes·HCl resulted in new [(PPh3)Pd(Ph)(NHC)Cl] complexes and these complexes are characterized by NMR and elemental anaylsis.Moreover, these new palladium complexes showed moderate to good catalytic activities towards norbornene polymerization.
