Numerical study on nonlinear hydrodynamic performance of a heaving buoy type wave energy converter under nonlinear wave condition

Development of wave energy converter is a growing interest in the hydrodynamic performance and energy extraction under nonlinear waves. To analyze the global performance of the wave energy converter in nonlinear waves, numerical wave water tank technique was utilized in this study. This technique is based on the Mixed Eulerian Lagrangian method and can be a suitable tool for describing nonlinear waves and buoy motions. In addition, a coupled analysis of buoy-wave-PTO (Power take-off) system was carried out. Comparison study was conducted between the results of linear analysis, partially nonlinear analysis, and fully nonlinear analysis. Hence, the nonlinearity of waves and body motions is evaluated. © 2019 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
